# Introduction

> PopUp: Sell by Weight is a Shopify POS app extension that enables vendors to sell by weight and for items that don't require inventory — directly from their phone. Examples include selling produce at a farmers market or pizza slices at an event.

**PopUp: Sell by Weight** is a Shopify POS app for vendors who sell by weight or without inventory — at farmers markets, pop-up events, and more.

There are a few reasons why I built this app:

1. **Sell by weight or by item —** Shopify doesn't support selling items by weight — this app fixes that. You can also sell by item and include products from your Shopify store in the same transaction.
2. **Simplify your tax prep —** Remove the need to use Square or another online provider — it's all in one place: Shopify.
3. **Sell non-inventory products in Shopify POS.** Perfect for vegetables, flower bouquets, baked goods, and more.
4. **Pause for the off-season.** Only need this for a few months a year? Stop billing when the season ends — your products and settings are saved and waiting.

It works alongside your existing Shopify setup so every sale syncs to your store automatically.

## What PopUp does

* Weigh an item, enter the weight, and add it to the cart
* Sell fixed-price items alongside weight-based ones from the same screen
* Organize products into categories so you can find anything fast

## Who it's for

PopUp is designed for sellers who already have a Shopify store and want to use the same service for their in-person sales. Examples:

* Farmers market vendors selling fresh produce by weight, alongside specialty foods and merchandise
* Anyone who needs a fast, reliable checkout at an in-person event

## How it works with Shopify

PopUp lives inside the Shopify POS app as a tile. When you tap it, a product browser opens directly in POS — no switching apps, no extra steps. Every sale you ring up goes through Shopify as a custom order.

Your product catalog is managed in the PopUp Admin (on your phone or computer) and syncs between Shopify Admin and the Shopify POS app on your phone.
